Task 1: Improvement of one entry in the Emerging Technologies wiki
- Select one wiki sub page for a tool that you are interested in.
- Improve the content of the page, add new resources, such as a scholarly article on the tool, discipline specific application of the tool, and a video (e.g. found on YouTube) on the use of this tool in teaching and learning. Provide a rationale for selection of resources.

This assignment is due on the 9th of May 2012 at
14.00. You will be talking about your tool at the first online meeting on
the 9th of May 2011.
Reflection 1: Context
Reflect on the course blog (www.checet.blogspot.com) on your
teaching and learning context.
- What are your initial ideas about your learners’ and your own needs? How could you address these needs using technology?
- What don’t you know about your learners as yet? What do you intend to do to establish what your learners needs are?
Each reflection should not exceed 500
words. Deadline: 16th of May 2012.
Task 2 and reflection 2: Initial proof of concept
Prepare a preliminary piece on the
intervention that you intend to present in your final session. Post this
initial proof of concept on the blog.
What
learning problem have you decided to address? What activity have you decided to
develop? What tool have you selected and why? What are the affordances of this
tool? How well do the affordances of this tool match these learning needs?
In
your presentation you need to include the following:
- Theoretical departure points of the research or teaching approach
- Contexts in which it has been applied
- Description of the context and modules in which you may apply the pedagogic intervention
- How you may apply it in your own modules
- What do you think the challenges may be in applying this approach in your own module?
This
presentation will be done on 23 May 2012 in the online session using Adobe
Connect.
Task 3 and reflection 3: Formative feedback
In the blog reflect on how useful the feedback was,
that you received during the Adobe Connect session on your initial thoughts of
the prototype you want to develop. Any changes, improvements you are going to
implement based on the feedback?
Furthermore
organize some form of formative feedback on your proof of concept from
colleagues or students.
Deadline: 30th of May 2012
Reflection 4: Formative evaluation
On
the blog, reflect on how useful you found the formative evaluation exercise
with your colleagues or students. What did you learn? What changes could you
make to your prototype in the light of the feedback received from peers, your
class participants and facilitators? This will feed into your prototype
presentation.
Show
the activity and explain what informed your design decisions, by answering the
following questions:
- How did I go about exploring what I needed to do?
- How did I design and develop my learning activity?
- How did I formatively evaluate my prototype learning activity?
This
assignment will be presented and evaluated during face-to-face Session on 6 June
2012.
Final presentation and reflection
Your presentation
should include your prototype and your reflection on the development process which should incorporate
the following:
- curriculum focus,
- students’ needs,
- rationale for technology enhanced activity
- context in which activity is to take place
- lecturer’s preferences for activity
- outcomes and intentions of activity
- pedagogic strategies and theoretical underpinnings
- how technologies were used creatively and to enhance learning activity
- formative evaluation (either from students or colleauges)
- congruence between outcomes, strategies and evaluation
All of the above should be evidence-based
showing how students’ needs have been ascertained, theory has been consulted
and formative evaluation has been conducted.
Use a minimum of 6 references that have
assisted you in analysing your learners needs, designing, developing and
formatively evaluating your prototype in your final presentation (be sure to
include these in your presentation e.g. PowerPoint/Prezi).
Please use a consistent referencing format
throughout (eg. APA or Harvard).
This assignment is due by 6 June 2012, should
be uploaded onto the Facebook group (use Files tab on top, max file size 25 MB) or on slideshare (share the link in the Facebook group) straight after your presentation on that day.
